Customer challenge

The municipality wanted to eliminate bias and gut feeling from their selection process. Despite the intention to recruit objectively, the starting point of their selection was still heavily based on résumés, diplomas, and first impressions. As a result, tunnel vision became a risk and potential was overlooked simply because it didn’t fit the traditional profile.

Situation

The municipality of Meierijstad had previously attempted competency-based recruitment through their MeierijstadPool project. This project was highly successful, resulting in more than five competency-based hires who are performing well within the organization.

However, the process itself was not fully competency-based or efficient. Selection often started with a résumé screening before moving on to assessments. Managing, following up on, and evaluating these assessments was very costly in terms of both finances and time. This process could—and needed to—be made more efficient with Recrout.

Our approach

Recrout’s Softmatch.ai platform was implemented to objectively match candidates from the very start based on behavior, competencies, and potential. This is done fully automatically, without manual selection or influence from background, gender, or education level. Within a week, the first vacancy was live, and the team was immediately impressed by the intuitive workflow and objective insights.

The municipality was able to make significant progress in automating competency-based recruitment. Through the Softmatch platform, each candidate begins their journey with an assessment, after which those with the best match proceed to the next personal round.

Result

The impact was immediately visible: more diverse candidates on the shortlist; over 90% cost savings compared to their previous process; more than 50% time efficiency achieved through fully automated matching; two successful hires who fell outside the traditional profile but perfectly matched the required competencies.
