The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK) aimed for an efficient and effective process to internally match trainees with the most suitable positions that best fit their personal and professional development. To achieve this, EZK sought an innovative and objective method to attract talent. Traditional recruitment methods, which relied heavily on CVs and first impressions, could lead to tunnel vision or the overlooking of diverse talent. EZK wanted a selection process fully based on behavior, competencies, and potential to ensure a long-term perfect match.

Situation

As a key ministry of the Dutch government, EZK is continuously working to attract the right professionals to address the complex challenges of the Dutch economy and climate. Existing recruitment processes were highly labor-intensive, lengthy, and often subjective. Although efforts had been made to improve matching, a fully objective, data-driven approach was needed to ensure the optimal match with the ministry’s various departments.

The process itself was not fully competency-based or efficient. Initial CV screenings were followed by manual matching with dozens of available positions. This manual matching, communication, and management were costly in terms of both time and resources. Softmatch offered a more efficient solution.

Our approach

Recrout’s Softmatch.ai platform was deployed to transform EZK’s recruitment and selection process. The approach included:

  • Automated, unbiased matching: Trainees completed an online competency assessment, enabling near-instant objective matching to the required competency and personality profile for each role.

  • Integration of AI and psychometric analysis: Advanced technology and validated assessments provided a clear, unbiased overview of suitable candidates.

  • Focus on competency-fit: Instead of emphasizing work experience and degrees, the emphasis was placed on alignment with the function and departmental culture profile.
