Case: Data-Driven Student Development Platform – Inholland

Customer challenge

Inholland University of Applied Sciences, aiming to maximize student success, faced the challenge of providing standardized, meaningful, and data-driven Study and Career Guidance (known as SLB/PPCM). While mandatory, parts of the existing guidance program were often perceived by students as a formality (“moetje”). The core need was to move beyond traditional CVs and subjective reports, implementing an objective, scalable tool that would give students deep personal insight while simultaneously equipping teachers with actionable data for targeted, high-quality coaching and reducing their administrative workload

Situation

Building on successful pilots across multiple domains and locations (including Diemen, Haarlem, Alkmaar, and Rotterdam), the goal was to establish a structural, organization-wide solution for personal and professional development. This required integrating a robust, scientifically validated personality assessment into the core curriculum. The resulting platform needed to serve as the central hub for the student’s entire development journey, from their first year of study through to internship preparation and entry into the job market

Our approach

Recrout partnered with Inholland to deliver a personalized, white-label SLB/PPCM and Internship Platform as the technological engine for student development. Our approach involved:

  • Integrated Talent Assessment: Implementing a validated personality assessment, providing students with a profile of up to 48 competencies to establish a baseline for their personal and professional growth.
  • The Digital Talent Dossier: Creating a central, visually attractive profile for each student, which can be used to monitor development over multiple years, automatically generate an up-to-date CV, and draft personal motivation letters based on talent analysis.
  • Empowering Educators: Providing teachers with comprehensive coaching reports, including conversation starters and talent diagrams, enabling them to move from general teaching to targeted, competency-based guidance and reduce time spent on grading irrelevant, abstract reports.
Result

The Recrout platform became an integral tool for Inholland’s student guidance program, achieving multiple benefits:

  • Enhanced Student Engagement and Success: Students receive a clear, data-driven understanding of their talents and development potential, which they use to create their Competency Development Plan (COP), make informed choices about their specialization (AR), and prepare effectively for internships.
  • Professionalized Coaching: Teachers gained a uniform and qualitative framework for coaching conversations, saving preparation and grading time and allowing them to conduct more group-based discussions instead of less efficient one-on-one sessions.
  • Data-Driven Management: The platform provides Inholland’s management with predictive data on student success and allows for benchmarking of student groups across locations, contributing to quality assurance and curriculum development.
  • Reduced Administrative Burden: The automatic generation of a CV and the streamlining of reflection assignments based on assessment outcomes significantly reduced the administrative burden on both students and teachers.
